The great white egret, Casmerodius albus, in flight with nest building materials in its beak. Many such trips from nearby trees will be necessary before the nest is completed and the reproductive process is begun.

The great blue heron, Ardea herodias, at rest on its “knees.” This is a very dangerous position for it makes the bird more susceptible to predation and will seldom be seen. Perhaps the fact that this bird is immature explains the careless behavior.

This green-backed heron, Butorides striatus, is fishing – it actually captures insects and places them on the water to attract small fish to the surface, then it plunges head-long into the water to catch them. One of Natures more fascinating behaviors from the avian world.

The snowy egret, Egretta thula, filmed at a rookery in Florida, seems to be having a bad hair day. Donned in breeding plumage it is expressing a threat gesture to another bird trespassing too closely to its nest.
